K-Guard
K-Guard is a new generation broad-spectrum Insecticides, Herbicides, Fungicides, and Algaecides made from plant oils. It is effective against a wide range of soft bodied insect pests including aphids, mites, leafhoppers, thrips and whitefly. K-Guard is a contact pesticide causing the insect to dehydrate and die and best suited for early season application.
K-Guard, an Insecticidal soap based on potassium fatty acids is used to control many plant pests. Since it works on direct contact with the pests, it is sprayed on the plants in such a way that the entire plant is wetted. K-Guard have a low mammalian toxicity and are therefore considered safe to be used around children and pets and may be used in organic farming.
Why K-Guard ?
Hungry garden insects love our fresh healthy produce as much as we do and they can wreak havoc on plants seemingly overnight, damaging and reducing plant production. K-Guard is an easy to use, highly effective, plant friendly, environmental friendly option for pest control, making it great for growing organic herbs, fruits and vegetables.
Mode of Action
K-Guard works on direct contact with the target pests. The salts of fatty acids penetrate the insect's cuticle (exoskeleton) and disrupt the structure and permeability of the insects' cell membranes. The cell contents leak from the damaged cells, causing the insect to become dehydrated and quickly die. The soap is effective only when wet.

How to Use K-Guard
When to Use K-Guard
K-Guard must be sprayed directly onto pests or applied to the plant parts attacked by pests (stems and upper and/or lower leaf surfaces). It is not a systemic insecticide that gets absorbed by the plants, it will be only effective against the pests when it contacts them. This is why it is essential to cover all plant surfaces when treating with K-Guard including the undersides of the plant leaves where many insects hide from the elements and predators.
Thorough coverage is vital for it to be effective: Spray thoroughly, but not beyond the point of runoff.
Hard water reduces the effectiveness of the K-Guard. Calcium, magnesium, and iron cause the fatty acids to precipitate out of the solution causing it to be ineffective. It is important to use the purest water possible.
K-Guard must be used when the conditions favor slow drying to maximize effectiveness, e.g., in the early morning hours with dew coverage, in the early evening or on a cloudy day. Avoid applying it on very windy days.
Spraying K-Guard on hot sunny afternoons can stress your plants and lead to leaf burn and also it will promote rapid drying making it less effective. Repeat the application if needed for every 4 to 7days. Avoid excessive applications as leaf damage may accumulate with repeated exposure.
